I very much enjoy the Inspector Faro stories. The characters are believable and the dialog is very real. It is interesting to see how life was in Scotland in the latter part of the 19th century, the foods that people ate, their relations with each other etc. Much was brought up in this book about Queen Victoria and her habits and eccentricities. That was also very interesting. Still, I would prefer Inspector Faro back in Edinburgh tracking down routine murderers rather than getting involved in political intrigues, secret societies and assassination attempts on heads of state. If he is on that level, I should think that his saving the life of Queen Victoria would get him a knighthood or an earldom at the very least.Product details

Lots of historical settings, a little too much thought description!!
They are well written and the plots and settings are intriguing glimpses into a time and place so alien to us now. I plan to keep going.
I have continued to read about Inspector Faro. I enjoy how the locations are described and the characters developed. There is no doubt the I will continue reading these books by Alanna Knight.
The Insp. Faro detective stories are good reads for any Anglophile and especially Scots. They tend to get a bit long and too detailed in spots, but i will probably read all of the stories. There is always a twist at the end where the criminal you know is guilty, is not!
I like Alanna Knight. She is an easy and entertaining read. If you like Victorian mysteries she is quite good.

A interesting story showing life in Victorian times with a monarch who was totally oblivious to the lives of her subjects.
